The Breakfast Club

Americans love their breakfast, New Yorkers love their Sunday brunch. We could eat sweet and savory breakfast foods for dinner if we could. And we do. I once had French Toast for dinner everyday for a week. Our nation's obsession with a deliciously caloric daily kick-off explains why, when everyone else was hungover or asleep yesterday morning, I was already elbow-deep in buttermilk biscuit dough. I was also experimenting with different methods of candying bacon à la Egg in Williamsburg. It's much simpler than it seems (bacon + brown sugar + oven), although I can't get it quite as sweet as theirs. By the time everyone had crawled out of bed, the biscuits were emerging from their warm womb, just crying out for a dab of butter, a drizzle of honey.
